Here I am on my way to my last Doctor's appointment. I had a C-Section date set for May 14th- but I was determined to have her before then. I really wanted to go into labor spontaneously. I had been stressing out because both of my parents were sick. My Mom had bronchitis and my Dad was on his way to having the same. Living with sickies days away from giving birth was too much for me. I was SO READY.
Craig's Mom was spending the day with Eliza, so I met Craig for lunch on the way to my appointment. I had been having a ton of contractions for a couple weeks. The week before I was dilated to a 4 and 80% effaced. I thought (and so did Dr. Lunt) I would have her that weekend- I even went to the hospital after having consistent contractions all day. They sent me home. Bummed. Now it was Wednesday.

Doctor asked how I was doing. My response was: "What will it take for you to take my baby today? I am sooo ready." I told him about the sickies at home. I told him I was still having consistent contractions. And I was going to be super dilated and he was going to send me over to the hospital. He laughed and said lets check you. I was at a 5. (progress!) While we chatted I had 3 contractions in about 10 minutes. He then surprised me and said he was sending us over to the hospital- I was in labor. All the sudden I was super nervous! My contractions hadn't been painful at all- so I still didn't believe it was really happening. I figured they would hook me up and watch me for a while and send me home- like always. So we walked over and got checked in. (it was about 3:00 p.m.)

We notified our parents and they wanted to come right over. We told them we weren't sure they were going to keep us- and if they did the surgery would be late that night and we would let them know. I continued to have contractions (that weren't painful) and I was sure they were sending me home. The nurse came in and I asked when the c-section would happen. She said she just talked to Dr. Lunt and he wanted to do it at about 4:30. That was like 45 minutes away. Craig hadn't even gone home to get our bags or anything! We were not expecting that. As soon as Craig got back Dr. Lunt came in to check my progress. I was at a 6 "with a bulging sac". I still didn't get that it was really happening until he said let's go! Craig gave me a quick blessing. My parents showed up just in time to have a quick family prayer- and we were on our way.
(the sickies)
The operating room is a bit of a blur. I was super nervous about the spinal block. I almost passed out a couple of times while they prepped me. Pretty soon Craig came in. Within 5 minutes she was here.
(words cannot describe the love I have for this man that brings my babies into this world. Is that weird?
I LOVE him)
When they told me she had lots of black curly hair- I didn't realize she ACTUALLY had lots of black curly hair.
(Eliza was bald)
Craig got to hang out with her in my recovery room while I got all stitched up.
I finally got to hold my Aletta Jane.
They wanted me to feed her asap so they could check her blood sugar levels. (Dang diabetes)
After what seemed like forever to our families (I'm sure) we finally brought them in!
Eliza's first look at her baby sister
She wasn't quite sure of what to think about it all (She still isn't)

The hair.
(Straight when dry- curly when wet)
Craig once again insisted on not leaving me. I was so worried about him not sleeping all night that I didn't sleep all night. I finally convinced him to go home the next night so he could actually get some sleep.
The first night was rough for me. I puked all night long- and Aletta really struggled to latch on and get a good feeding. I was so dang tired I couldn't function. I thought this c-section would be much easier because I wouldn't be so worn out from pushing for so long. (Eliza's birth story
here )
I was wrong. The anesthesiologist gave me some drug in my spinal block that lasted 24 hours!!!! I couldn't keep my eyes open and my entire body itched so badly that I felt like a crazy person. The Dr. and nurses all said they had never heard of an anesthesiologist give a drug like that for more than 13 hours. Of course that would happen to me.

We didn't expect Dr. Lunt to let me go home on Friday. We thought we had to stay until Sunday for some reason. When he said if I was ready I could go home- we did. We wanted to enjoy the whole weekend at home together before Craig had to go back to work Monday.
Ready to go...
Finally heading home...
Home sweet home...
Life is a miracle. Words can not describe how grateful I am for this little girl and her safe arrival. I don't know how we got so lucky. We are so blessed and I will never take this little one and her life with us on earth for granted.
