Grandma Carol

My Grandma Carol passed away on January 2nd. Although it was hard, it was such a blessing for her. She had been living in a rest home for the last year and half, and we had all watcher her slowly slip further and further away from us. She didn't recognize us anymore. She didn't talk anymore. Her body was slowly failing her. I am so thankful for the last few visits I had with her. One of my visits she actually recognized who I was and she was so happy. I hadn't seen her smile so big in so long. I am so grateful she was able to meet my Eliza.

I was able to be in the room with her when she died. It is something I will never forget. We had got a phone call from Kolob the night before. They told my Dad she wasn't doing well. She had had the flu and her fever just wasn't breaking. I told my Dad to call me the next morning when he saw her and we would come have a visit. He called me about 9 am and said it wasn't looking good. He told me he if I wanted to see her alive I should come over as quickly as possible. I called Craig's Mom who came right over and got Eliza from me. My Dad called Craig and arranged for Hospice to come take care of her final day/days. He was there before I was and was able to arrange for a bigger more private room for us to spend the day with her in. After all the paper work and arrangements were finally done we were ready to move her. My Mom and Dad, Craig and I, and my little brother Tyson (who just happened to be passing through town) were all there. As soon as we got into the new room and all was quiet we quickly noticed her breaths were getting shorter and less frequent. We gathered around as a family and watched as she struggled taking each breath. It was painful to watch. We were all struggling. My Dad kept telling her it was time and to just go. She suddenly sat up a bit, raised her shoulders up and looked as if she was wincing or struggling. She slowly laid back down and then was gone. We had just watched her spirit leave her body. An experience I will never forget. I am so glad we were able to be there with her as a family. She passed away within an hour of us arriving at Kolob. I was so proud of Craig and everything he did for our family in the short amount of time we had left with her. Everything worked out so perfectly.
Grandma Carol was the sweetest person ever made. I have so many memories with her. She will be missed.
